Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, conquers Jerusalem in 605 BC.  But this event only triggers God’s conquering of Babylon as His faithful servants are taken captive, only to thrive in the city that is the epitome of rebellion against God.  Two brothers, Asa and Joshua, are set at odds by the conflagration of events congealing around the capture of Judah’s capital.  Who really is Joshua?  The thoughts and words of the Biblical prophets Jeremiah and Daniel are central to the understanding of events.  A crippled priest provides commentary on the law of Moses.  A blacksmith whose heart is bigger than his biceps helps the Judean youths prepare for their journey into the darkest of cities.  Nebuchadnezzar expertly expands his dominion and is wise enough to listen to two Judean captives.

The dark heart of Babylon is exposed as the demons, headed by Borebaal, plan an execute the rise of Babylon and the subjugation of Jerusalem through their unwitting human pawns.

Amutpiel builds the Hanging Gardens while Nebuchadnezzar builds a golden statue but can’t force the Judean captives to bow down to it. He is losing the loyalty of the Babylonian generals as they perceive his weakness towards the Jews. Nevertheless, he conquers Jerusalem again in 597 BC and humiliates their king, though he has a strange respect for their prophet, Jeremiah.

Borebaal demonstrates his control over his city, particularly through his high priest, Belseduqa, whose evil knows no limits. The number of true believers in Babylon grows. Even Joshua’s brother comes to faith. Joshua proves to be clumsy with a female love interest, Rebekah, who fights her own demons of childhood abuse, but finally finds common ground.

The Judean axe man lays waste to the Amalekite army, but eventually has to sacrifice himself for his true love. A stranger shows up at Joshua’s wedding. Daniel continues to lead the wise men in their faith.
